This is a very important event which happens in Liverpool, England where the Beatles were born. During the sixties, the Beatles brought about a real revolution in the history of music. Besides, they have been able to influence younger generations since then.
There are about 400 groups who take part in the Beatle Week Festival and there is no competition between them. They are from different countries and they are used to playing in different places like pubs and parks. The Festival takes place in August when the birth of the Beatles is celebrated.

There were lots of journalists from all over the world and guests who thought the concert was out of this world. During this concert the musicians were dressed like the Beatles and were playing the original Beatles’instruments. Among others, they were able to play a Steinway Piano and a Hammond organ. They got very emotional. In fact, it was a “dream come true” because in the Abbey Road Studios, the Beatles recorded almost all of their records. It is considered the “Temple of Music”.
As a gift, the Brazilian group had the opportunity to record their first CD live with songs like: Revolution, Come Together and Let it Be (songs from the Beatles’studio phase).
After that, the Brazilian group went to Liverpool on a special bus. There they played in 10 more concerts. It was the first time this happened, because the groups usually play between 3 and 5 times during the Festival.

 THE CONQUEST OF LIVERPOOL

After many years of research and 10 years on the stages in Brazil, Abbey Road – Beatles in Concert, the only professional Beatles Band Brazil, got fans quickly in Liverpool. They also received compliments from the organizers of the Festival because of the amount of details they show during their concerts. They dress exactly like the Beatles and their sound quality is as good as the Fab Four. It is because they are used to playing more than 20 original instruments true relics from the sixties just like the instruments the Beatles used to play. The instruments are: Gretch, Epiphone and Rickenbacker (6 and 12 strings) guitars, Hofner bass and Ludwig drum. Besides that, they have got the famous British VOX amplifiers, all of them absolutely original.

The first concert in Liverpool was at the Ball Room of the Adelphi Hotel, the convention centre. Another important show took place at the Quarry Bank School, where the Quarrymen (John Lennon’s first band and the first name given to the Beatles) were born. John Lennon studied there. Interestingly, the classroom where he studied was offered to the Brazilian group as a dressing room. However, the most emotional concert as far as the musicians were concerned, happened in the Cavern Club, the “Sacred Temple of Beatlemania”, where the Beatles had performed over 200 concerts. The Brazilian group were applauded and complimented by everyone (including George Guiness one of the owners of the Cavern Club, who said: “You guys are the best I’ve ever seen”). In addition to this, lots of fans who had seen the Beatles’ concerts in the Cavern Club were impressed by the quality of their show. In fact, they were very surprised with the similarity between the Brazilian group and the Beatles.
After that, they performed at Chevasse Park, where the Yellow Submarine is “docked”. They were dressed in uniforms exactly as the Beatles were in the picture of the Sgt. Peppers’ record cover. They were showing a very important phase of the Beatles and they were applauded by more than 20.000 people.

A VERY SPECIAL AND UNFORGETTABLE MOMENT

The last concert of the Brazilian group, happened in a special style. It was on Victoria Street, a busy street in Liverpool. There were lots of  fans who were following the Brazilian group during the Festival and they were very excited. Besides, there were journalists from different countries who were recording everything. Among others, the journalists from the Germany Focus magazine and BBC of London, interviewed the Brazilian group.
There were about 100.000 people in this concert. It was a very important moment for the Brazilian group because they were not used to playing for so many people like that. “It was an absolute and unforgettable success. We intend to take part in the next Festivals”- said the musicians of the Abbey Road – Beatles in Concert group. Definitely, they were the main stars who illuminated this important Festival of Beatlemania.
Apart from the success of their concerts, a picture, of the Brazilian group was stamped on the festival’s official T-shirt and official Programme of the Beatle Week Festival 2000 cover. This picture was chosen by the organizers of the Festival and  the Brazilian group agreed to let them use it.

MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR

After Abbey Road – Beatles in Concert performed all their shows; they received another reward from the organizers of the Festival. This reward was a complete tour around the main points of Liverpool and special places in the history of the Beatles. They were surprised when they found out they would travel in the original bus of the movie “Magical Mystery Tour” and the original bus driver of the movie would be their driver. By the way, this movie was made for TV at the end of the sixties and 6 Beatles’songs were included in its sound track.

Brandon Patching, their manager and interpreter was with them the whole time. They have been together since 1997.

At the end of the Beatle Week Festival 2000, the Brazilian group Abbey Road – Beatles in Concert, left lots of fans in the United Kingdom and came back to Brazil to go on with the Beatlemania.
